Quitugua’s contributions on Rota, in terms of education and community services, are constantly cherished by residents even when she left the island to better serve the CNMI as PSS assessment director, according to Rep. Teresita A. Santos, Ind.-Rota.
Last week, Santos pre-filed a resolution lauding Quitugua’s achievements and thanking her for her contributions to the community.
Santos praised Quitugua, who also served as principal of Rota Junior High School, for her educational background, leadership and classroom experiences.
“Quitugua takes great pride in her responsibilities and accomplishments and undertakes any additional duties and responsibility without complaint and with a positive attitude, exemplifying her dedication and commitment to the education of the CNMI’s youth, particularly on the island of Rota,” the resolution stated.
Quitugua received her associate of arts degree in liberal arts and early childhood teacher education at Northern Marianas College. She furthered her education at University of Guam where she earned her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education, graduating magna cum laude.
Quitugua completed her master’s certification courses in education supervision and administration at UOG and a master’s intern in school program evaluation at the University of Hawaii.
“Despite the overwhelming duties of an educator, Quitugua often volunteered her services and leadership skills to overcome extra tasks including leadership roles benefitting the school community such as serving as the school accreditation chairperson, language arts learning community chairperson, National Junior Forensic League coach, Scripps Howard Spelling Bee coach, School Drug-Free Program coordinator, PSS equal employment opportunity counselor, social studies leadership representative, and as a Reading Success Network Program trainer,” the resolution added.
Quituga also volunteered her time and service to the community as AmeriCorps site supervisor, Parent Teacher Association vice president, Association of Commonwealth Teachers member and in other various capacities.
