Children and adults visited the different booths to sample the different local dishes and beverages, and to participate in different activities such as face painting, bead jewelry making, and more.
Cultural dancers such as the Warrior Warriors, the Saipan Awaodori Dance team from Koblerville and other groups entertained the crowd with colorful and lively dance numbers. The audience was also treated to non-stop island music from local artists during the Rock Against Sexual Violence concert.
Hosted by the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, the Family Violence Task Force together with Ayuda Network Inc. and its community partners, Saturday’s Safe, Aware, Free, Empower, or SAFE, Jamboree was just one of the month-long activities conducted to urge the community to come out, speak out and engage in the prevention of sexual violence in the CNMI.
The observance of the month as Sexual Assault Awareness Month is over, but the campaign is far from over, advocates said.
The organizers are urging the community members to join them and support their efforts in working toward changing the belief systems and practices that support violence in the CNMI.
They are soliciting everybody’s support in reaching out to victims and survivors of sexual assault and violence to come and speak out and know that they are not alone.
This year’s theme is “It’s Time…To Get Involved.”
