Illinois family will stay on Saipan

“We have decided to start all over again here, because this is what we want to do in the first place,” Amy Gregg said.

Returning to the states will mean starting from scratch as they had already sold everything they owned there, she added.

She said she and her family would like to thank the members of the local community, the government and the different church organizations for donating money and food.

Gregg said Taotao Tano leader Greg Cruz is on  top of the list of people helping them.

It was Cruz who helped the family get their Nutrition Assistance Program application yesterday and he also brought her  job application to the Marianas Health Center.

Like her fiancé Richard Johnson, Gregg is a certified nursing aide. They have two daughters.

Cruz yesterday said he talked to Northern Marianas College President Carmen Fernandez to ask for more help for the couple.

Fernandez would want to help the family, he added.

Johnson has a scheduled job interview at the Commonwealth Health Center today.

Gregg said they will save the cash donations they have received to pay for rent once they are capable of renting an apartment.

Their children, Sierra, 13, and Dynasty, 5, have been provided with school supplies by members of the community.

Gregg said the children will go to school once she and her fiancé land a job.

Gregg and her family was supposed to live with her sister, a federal employee, but they had a falling out.

But Gregg said she loves her sister and is hoping that everything will be “OK” with them someday.
