Immigration employee needs $8K to attend Vanuatu training

Vince Lizama, the officer in charge of the Saipan airport, will participate in the training that will be conducted by the Australian government in Vanuatu on Aug. 20-22.

The airfare costs $7,330.98; lodging, $685; taxi fare, $40; and per diem, $500 for a total cost of $8,555.98.

The event is sponsored by the Pacific Immigration Directors Conference.

Acting Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider, R-Tinian, yesterday said he and other lawmakers support efforts that will help improve the local immigration system.

All appropriation bills, however, must come from the House of Representatives, he added.

“We’re in support of anything that will enhance and develop the professional skills of our employees and improve government service,” he said.

The Pacific Immigration Directors Conference allows heads of immigration agencies to meet and discuss “issues of mutual interest and to foster multilateral cooperation and mutual assistance aimed at strengthening territorial borders and the integrity of their entry systems.”
