Injured 71-year-old woman in stable condition

Department of Public Safety Acting Spokesman Jason T. Tarkong said the victim, a resident of Saipan, sustained serious injuries and was in critical condition when she was first admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of CHC.

Tarkong said DPS Central received a report of an auto pedestrian accident in front of the San Antonio Market along Beach Road at about 7:11 p.m. on July 30.

The victim was found lying on the road unconscious about 30 feet from the point of impact.

Investigations showed the victim was crossing Beach Road from a food vendor using the pedestrian lane.

She had already passed the halfway mark and was entering the south bound lane when she was struck by a Kia Sephia sedan operated by a 36-year-old female.

Tarkong said the victim sustained injuries including multiple abrasions to the front of her head and shoulder, pelvic fracture, left thigh, right knee and left ankle, laceration to her right earlobe, and a fracture on her right clavicle.

Testimonies from witnesses and on scene investigation disclosed that the female driver was found at fault and caused the accident.

The driver was found to violate traffic laws like operators to exercise due care, pedestrians right of way at crosswalks, and violating the speed limit.

Tarkong said the case remains under investigation.

The vehicle involved was impounded as evidence.
