Inos urges NMI to conserve energy

After expressing appreciation for the recognition, Inos urged residents to practice energy conservation in order to move toward a greener CNMI.

He said he will make sure that all the federal grants for the conservation and maintenance of power are  put to proper use.

The Energy Division yesterday distributed free compact fluorescent light bulbs and reusable shopping bags to 10 residents as part of its Energy Awareness Project which is made possible through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, State Energy Program under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The 10 individuals received the bulbs and bags after presenting their most recent  utility bills.

DPW and the Energy Division will hold a similar event tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the multi-purpose center.

The campaign aims to “Bring in the New Year by Saving Energy.” It encourages everyone to participate by taking small steps that make a big difference and by challenging people to do more to help reduce the effects of global warming through energy-efficient choices at home and at work.

This promotion is available to all residential paying customers of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. who must provide a copy of their CUC utility bill to receive the free items.

Thelma Inos, director of the Energy Division, encourages everyone to be a part of the solution in protecting the environment by replacing at least one  incandescent bulb with a qualified energy-efficient Energy Star CFL bulb.
