Investigation still ongoing in Dandan rape case

But police already have a lead regarding the identity of the perpetrator, according to Department of Public Safety acting information officer PO2 Jason T. Tarkong.

“Our leads in this case are based on the evidence we have gathered, and we are in the process of clearing all the other suspects,” Tarkong said.

This includes gathering of DNA samples from potential suspects, particularly those who are in the sex offender registry.

“This is why we have the sex offenders registry updated regularly to keep track of potential suspects in crimes like this,” Tarkong said.

He added that they will make an arrest as soon as the police complete their investigation and identify the suspect.

DPS earlier reported that the victim underwent treatment at the Commonwealth Health Center after she was sexually assaulted inside their house on the morning of March 7, 2009.

DPS spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said police received a call at 6:04 a.m. on March 7 reporting the sexual assault incident in Dandan.

Tarkong is again appealing to the community to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator.

He said DPS welcomes any information pertaining to this case.

Members of the community can call the Criminal Investigation Division at 664-9100/9047/9050 or the NMI Crime Stoppers Hotline at 234-7272.

“We would appreciate the help and cooperation of the community in solving crimes,” Tarkong said.

Crime Stoppers offer a reward of up to $1,000 cash for any information leading to an arrest.

Caller ID is never used, and all calls are anonymous.

The Crime Stoppers  Hotline is open 24 hours
