During yesterday’s ribbon-cutting and turnover ceremony, Water Task Foce program manager Pete Sasamot said the $335,000 project will serve residents of Chalan Kanoa, Susupe, San Antonio, Chalan Pio and San Jose.
These areas will receive 24-hour water supply, he added.
Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos lauded Tropex Garden Co. Ltd. owner Pablo B. Mendoza for completing the project two days ahead of the schedule.
“We want to bring better service to the people and this is one example and we will continue to do this,” Inos said.
Sasamoto said the water reservoir, which holds 750,000 gallons, was funded by the U.S. Office of Insular Affairs.
Keith Augenbaugh, OIA representative, said they were happy working with the Water Task Force, the implementing agency of the project.
He said since 2004 the task force was able to spend $25 million in capital improvement project funds and is likely to get more federal grants for water projects.
Sasamoto said Tropex Garden also constructed the chlorination building adjacent to the water reservoir.
Yesterday, Sasamoto and task force special advisor Kay Delafield turned over the newly completed water reservoir to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
“Let’s make the water flow,” CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna said.
The Isley reservoir was constructed b the U.S. Navy about 1956.
The tank was taken out of service in 2002 as it was already in a state of disrepair.
