Israeli experts train Palau health workers

KOROR — Two visiting Israeli experts will conduct an advanced training course for Palau’s top health workers at Palau Community College from May 16 to 24, a media release said.

The course, “Health Services Management On-the-Spot Project in Palau,” has been organized and funded by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Center for International Cooperation—known by its Hebrew acronym, Mashav—in conjunction with Palau’s Ministry of Health.

This initiative comes as the result of a visit to Palau last year by Dr. Yossi Baratz, special medical and humanitarian advisor to Mashav.

During this visit, Baratz met with Vice President and Minister of Health Sandra S. Pierantozzi, to assess further areas of cooperation and assistance between Israel and Palau in the field of health.

Dr. Shoshana Riba, Israel’s national head nurse and director of the Israeli Ministry of Health Nursing Division, and Sima Riecher, director of nursing development, will share their extensive knowledge with 32 Palauan managers from a wide range of health professions through a combination of lectures, workshops, discussion and project based group learning.

The objectives of the course are to improve the understanding, abilities and management skills of managers in Palauan hospital and community health services, and to update the participants’ knowledge of modern management and health practices.

For over 40 years, Mashav has been committed to sharing Israel’s technological expertise in agriculture, public health and community and educational development with other nations.
