ISLAND Training Solutions technology instructor Arnel Gruspe has been recognized as a Micro:bit champion for 2025-2026.

Founded in 2016, the London-based Micro:bit Educational Foundation is a not-for-profit company dedicated to enabling every child everywhere to achieve their best digital future.

Gruspe shared with Variety the good news on Friday.

Being recognized as a Micro:bit champion for the 2025-2026 global cohort is an achievement that puts him at the cutting edge of technology education.

He was selected from a highly competitive pool of global educators.

He said the Micro:bit champion program accepted fewer than 10% of the applications for 2025-2026.

The highly selective program identifies and cultivates exceptional educators with extraordinary potential to transform science, technology, engineering and math or STEM technology education.

As a Micro:bit champion, Gruspe will be an “educational technology ambassador” with a broad and varied set of responsibilities that will see him developing innovative curriculum resources specifically designed to make computational thinking meaningful and fun for students.

His duties will involve designing imaginative lesson plans for integrating Micro:bit technology into various school subjects, including computer science and creative arts.

He will also facilitate regional and perhaps international professional development workshops, instructing other teachers in the effective integration of Micro:bit technology into classroom settings.

He will be responsible for developing case studies, designing instructional materials, and sharing best practices that demonstrate the transformative potential of hands-on technology education.

In addition, he will serve as a mentor to other teachers, providing guidance on leveraging project-based learning approaches that take advantage of the unique features of Micro:bit technology.
