Japanese executives turn Rota into paradise playground

Gordon Marciano, assistant general manager of Pacific Development Inc., said a group of Japanese executives who called themselves the “triathlon boys” hiked, biked and swam in Rota in a program dubbed as “executive challenge.” The executives are preparing for the 15th Annual Rota Blue Triathlon scheduled for November.

“This is a tournament designed to invite young executives from big corporation and companies to test their endurance and secure a slot in the triathlon,” Marciano told Variety.

Representatives and managers of Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines, British Airways, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways also arrived in Rota on June 28 for the first Kinki Nippon Tourist Holiday Golf Tournament.

KNT pioneered in bringing charter flights to Rota through the “Free Individual Traveler” program.

Yoichi Matsumura, president of PDI, said KNT is now experimenting in selling group incentive packages for Rota, which yielded to the visit of the “triathlon boys” and the airline executives.

Located 73 miles north of Saipan, Rota’s allure lies in its laid-back atmosphere that Japanese tourists find refreshing.

The island, with a population of only 3,000 people, has beautiful beaches, natural caves, trail parks and indigenous stone carvings.
