Japanese player tops Tinian Dynasty’s baccarat challenge

Tinian Casino marketing and promotions manager Chell Funtanar said the grand prize winner, a regular player who declined to be identified, bested 103 other players.

Second place winner Nishida Michio won $24,000 while third place Yao Pei Wei grabbed the $10,000 prize. Fourth place Jang Jong Hwan won $4,000.

The fifth to the 10th placers who won $1,000 each were Horiuchi Toru, Nishi Shizuka, Hashiguchi Hitoshi, Lee Hyo Joo, Kuroda Mayumi and Shen Li Mei.

Funtanar said  the participants included 72 players from Japan, 22 from Korea and 10 from China.  Twenty-four were females and 80 males.

There were two heats and the top five players from each of the five tables advanced to the semifinals on Sunday. The 50 players who made it to the semifinals were composed of 35 players from Japan, 10 from Korea and 5 from China.

The list was trimmed to the top two players from each of the five tables. Ten finalists advanced to the finals on Sunday evening: six Japanese players, two Koreans and two Chinese.

Funtanar said the turnout  was good. She said the fifth Baccarat Challenge will be held on Oct. 15-16, 2011.
