JOETEN-KIYU Public Library unveiled its new Sensory Corner on Tuesday, April 9 as part of a proclamation signing celebrating National Library Week, National Library Outreach Day, and National Library Workers Day.
According to a media release, the new Sensory Corner was made possible by a grant from the Libraries Transforming Communities Program of the American Library Association.
The Sensory Corner is in the Children of Our Homeland Center and features puzzles, an oversized piano keyboard, play sand, and more.
On Fridays, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. the space will be designated for children with autism and other special needs.
On other days, the library will prioritize the corner’s usage for children with autism and special needs.
During the proclamation signing, JKPL Director Erlinda Naputi highlighted some of the other developments taking place at the library.
These include a $1.6 million solar power project and furniture upgrades. The invitations to bid are “forthcoming,” she said.
Naputi also mentioned the launch of Rota’s Bookmobile and the library’s continuing partnership with McREL International.
“JKPL is an educational institution for people of all ages that effectively makes our community stronger,” she said.
CNMI officials led by Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang cut the ceremonial ribbon at JKPL’s Sensory Corner.
