Library executive director John O. Gonzales said the library will also open later than usual every Wednesday — 11 a.m. instead of the regular 9 a.m.
“We have been receiving lots of calls and requests to stay open until late because we have patrons and library users who do not have time to come until after 5 p.m., like students and employees,” Gonzales said.
This will be a pilot project, he added.
“We will be putting a suggestion box and conduct surveys if the community likes the new and extended schedule,” Gonzales said.
If the new schedule works best with the library users, they can add another day to extend operation hours each week.
“What we are trying to do is to reach out to the community and fit into your schedules because we want you to come here, spend time at the library and make use of our resources,” Gonzales said.
The library’s efforts to invite the people to come have started to pay off, he added, as indicated in the ever increasing number of library users every month.
For those who are far from the library, Gonzales said they can avail of the library services through the Bookmobile which makes its regular rounds in different areas every day.
Children’s library associate Erlinda C. Naputi earlier told the Variety that the library used to be open until 7 p.m. a few years back, but there were few library users so they returned to the normal hours of operation —from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
