Library executive director John O. Gonzales said they are getting many requests from individuals who do not have time to go to the library until after 5 p.m.
“Most of the employees and students get off from work and school at 5 p.m. and we would like to reach out to these individuals,” Gonzales said.
“We will see what we can do but we would like to serve all our library users better,” he added.
Gonzales said they may open at 11 a.m. so they can close at 7 p.m.
“Not so many people use the library in the morning so maybe we can adjust the time and move it downwards,” he added.
Nothing is final yet, however.
“As much as possible, we would like everybody to come to the library, get a library card, use our resources and make it a place to hang out and learn new things,” he said.
Acting librarian Erlinda Naputi said a few years back, the library used to be open until 8 p.m.
But very few people used the library at night so they decided to adjust the closing time to 7 p.m. When there were still few visitors, they moved the time to 6 p.m. and then to 5 p.m.
“We want to serve the community and give them access to library resources, but since very few used the library at night before, it became impractical to keep it open late because we have to pay for utilities and staff,” she said.
