Judge finds probable cause in sexual abuse case

Manglona directed Santos to answer the charges of two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree during his arraignment on June 13, 2011.

Because he was unable to post the $100,000 cash bail, Manglona remanded Santos to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the  preliminary hearing.

After hearing the government’s witness, reviewing the evidence presented and hearing the arguments of counsels, Manglona said the court found that the prosecution presented sufficient evidence to establish probable cause that the offenses as charged were committed by Santos.

The prosecution said the incidents occurred on April 23, and May 7, 2011.

Santos, the victim’s neighbor, would give her money every time he abused her, telling her not to talk to her mother about the incident because she would get upset, police said.

The victim informed her mother that Santos sexually abused her, police added.
