Kelvin Sanchez
SUPERIOR Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho found probable cause to charge Kelvin C. Sanchez with assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Sanchez was charged with assault and battery, strangulation, interfering with a domestic violence report, disturbing the peace, and domestic violence.
After hearing the testimony of Detective Shannon Dela Cruz at a preliminary hearing on March 4, the judge said there is probable cause to believe that Sanchez committed the crimes he was accused of and must answer the charges.
Sanchez was represented by Assistant Public Defender Molly Dennert while Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
Afte the hearing, Sanchez was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections and was ordered to return to court on March 11 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment before Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja.
The complaint
According to the complaint, the victim told Sanchez not to lay his hands on her if he didn’t want to go to jail. She attempted to call 911, but Sanchez grabbed her cell phone and threw it against the concrete wall, shattering the cell phone’s screen.
She said Sanchez then pushed her, using his weight to pin her to the corner of the wall.
She said she felt his right hand wrap tightly behind the left side of her neck. She said she shouted for someone to help her, but stopped when she could no longer breathe.
She said Sanchez let go of her neck, shoved her and walked away.
In 2023, Sanchez was arrested on charges of unlawful transportation of firearms, person not permitted to possess a firearm, removal of serial number from a firearm, no firearm permit, and illegal possession of narcotics.
