Board of Education member Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero who was one of the guests during Wednesday’s Saipan Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Hyatt, said Junior Achievement Program Guam director Beth Lizama will be coming over to conduct the meeting for teachers and business volunteers.
“The three-hour training is to help the advisors so they can help the students form companies and run their own business,” Deleon Guerrero said.
“The Junior Achievement Program is designed to teach the students more about running a business hands-on, which means they will form a business, sell products and shares and if they make profit they share it with the stockholders.”
He said the organization is run by volunteers.
“Guam is going to adopt us for the first year, and we hope to form our own chapter for the next year,” Deleon Guerrero said.
The program is for students in grades 9 through 12 and requires 12 volunteer-led activities or meetings averaging from 90 to 120 minutes.
It also provides extended learning opportunities like take-home materials for students, and access to online career assessments on its website, www.ja.org.
