The jury reached the verdict against 41-year-old Yong Ming Song following the closing arguments yesterday.
The trial started on Monday.
United States District Court for the NMI Presiding Judge Alex R. Munson set the sentencing for June 2 at 9 a.m. The pre-sentence investigation report is due on April 28.
The defendant appeared for the trial with his counsel Joey San Nicolas while Assistant U.S. Attorney James Benedetto represented the federal government.
San Nicolas told the jury that his client, Yong Ming Song, came to the CNMI to work.
“He came here with a dream but his dream was shattered when he was arrested,” San Nicolas said.
Benedetto disagreed.
“Song has not worked since the fall of 4007 and there are no records of his legal employment,” he said.
The arrest of Yong Ming Song yielded about $75,000 worth of ice, the third biggest haul in the CNMI.
Yong Ming Song was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service after yesterday’s hearing.
According to the prosecution, Yong Ming Song possessed with the intent to distribute 138 grams of ice on Sept. 11, 2008 while within 1,000 feet near Marianas High School.
