Jury deliberating in Pelisamen trial

Both the federal government and the defense delivered their closing arguments in federal court, after which U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson gave final instructions to the jury.

The jury trial started on Monday after the jury selection.

Pelisamen is represented by attorney Douglas Cushnie, while the U.S. government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Eric S. O’Malley and Kirk Schuler.

Pelisamen has been charged with committing wire fraud, wire fraud and money laundering after he was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Jan. 2008.

Pelisamen, who was appointed as the administrator of the estate on Sept. 27, 2005, was accused with his co-defendant lawyer Joseph Arriola of drafting 66 checks amounting to $219,000 payable to both of them.

The two transferred money from the Kaipat rstate on Nov. 28, 2005, from the Bank of Guam to the Bank of Hawaii, causing communications by wire between Saipan and Honolulu Hawaii and transmitting money amounting to $1,377,058.39 to Honolulu, Hawaii, the prosecution stated.
