Jury selection starts in rape case

Richmond Keybond, 20, and Joseph Saimon, 44, are charged with sexual assault in the second-degree. They were arrested in 2018, along with Christopher Saimon, 40, and the now-deceased Romeo Saimon.

Romeo, Christopher, and Joseph are brothers while Richmond is the son of Romeo.

Romeo was held on charges of sexual assault in the first degree and sexual assault in the second degree; Christopher on one count of sexual assault in the first degree; Keybond on two counts of sexual assault in the first degree; and Joseph on sexual assault in the first degree, kidnapping, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Last year, the charge against Christopher was dismissed. Court documents did not state the reason for dismissal.

The victim was Joseph’s former girlfriend, who said that the four men had raped her.

According to authorities, the victim had an argument with Joseph and was drinking with Romeo, Christopher, and Keybond prior to the alleged incident.

She recalled being drunk and in and out of consciousness, and remembered being in the bedroom and not consenting to having sex with Romeo, Christopher or Keybond.

The victim recalled seeing Romeo on top of her, then passing out and later seeing Keybond on top of her, then passing out again, and then seeing Christopher on top of her.

The following morning, she said Joseph threatened to post nude photos of her and used a machete to force her to have sex with him.

Upon initial questioning, Romeo  denied touching the alleged victim, stating that he had only brought her into the bedroom, laid her down on the bed, then left.

However, Keybond said he saw his father on top of the victim who appeared to be asleep, adding that his father told him to close the bedroom door and leave.

After his father had left the room, Keybond said  he later went into the room and had sex with the victim.

Christopher said he saw both father and son each enter the room twice where the victim was sleeping.

Christopher confessed to having sex with the victim.

The trial of Richmond Keybond, and Joseph Saimon will resume today, Thursday, at 8:30 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio.
