Vince Salas’s forehead and the left side of his nose were bleeding as a responding police officer interviewed him after the incident at around 4:30 p.m.
The two children of the motorist of the other vehicle involved in the accident did not have visible injuries but the Department of Public Safety’s emergency personnel took them to the hospital.
Salas, who was driving a DYS service car, said he was turning left from Leeset Lane into Isa Drive when the approaching car hit his vehicle’s rear.
The car that hit him was driven by Jun Habal and was going down from Capital Hill.
The impact pushed Salas’s car into the opposite lane and all the way to the side of the road.
Salas said his face hit the steering wheel.
The front bumper of the red Hyundai Habal was driving was damaged.
Emergency responders were seen attending to his two minor children and his wife while Salas was narrating the incident to a police officer.
Habal said there was another car in front of him so he did not see Salas’s vehicle.
That other car nearly hit Salas’s vehicle but managed to swerve off the road, Habal said.
