Karl King-Nabors
SENATE President Karl King-Nabors of Tinian is serving as acting governor in the absence of both Gov. David M. Apatang and Lt. Gov. Dennis James Mendiola.
On Monday, he issued a memorandum appointing Senate Vice President Corina L. Magofna as acting Senate president during his time as governor in an acting capacity, and asked the other senators to “forward all matters requiring his attention to her.”
Gov. Apatang left for Washington, D.C. over the weekend to meet with the U.S. panel for the continuation of consultations pursuant to Section 902 of the Covenant. He will also attend the meeting of the Inter-Agency Group on Insular Affairs.
Mendiola joined CNMI residents at the 20th Annual CNMI Labor Day Softball Tournament in Tacoma, Washington.
In an interview Tuesday, King-Nabors said he would review possible appointments today and Wednesday, and speak at important community events. He also plans to sign several proclamations.
In addition, he said he will ensure that government vendors are paid on time. He added that he is following through on the initiatives Gov. Apatang had been handling before leaving the island.
