“We are saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Younis,” said Sonia Siwa, manager of Kinpachi Restaurant, which has partnered with Variety in many community events, including cultural and environmental programs.
Siwa said Younis’ contribution to the NMI was very vital, particularly in keeping the community informed.
“He carried the torch for freedom of expression, and awareness of development issues,” she added.
“Our sincere condolences to his family — may his legacy last forever and his soul rest in peace,” she said.
Younis, who founded the Variety in 1972, passed away peacefully from natural causes at his home in Dandan, on Saturday morning, April 18. He was 83.
He is survived by his former wife Maria Paz Tudela Castro, their children Banny, Laila, Amier, Farah, Suaad, and Salam, and 12 grandchildren.
