Brilliant Star School principal Richard Sikkel told the Variety they had to decide on Saturday night to postpone the event because of the bad weather.
“We had to prepare plenty of food for the food fair and if the rain continued, it would all go to waste,” Sikkel said.
He added, “We will inform the community as soon as we have set another date for the festival, but we are hoping more people will still show up to support us.”
It didn’t rain yesterday and a lot of children and adults were at American Memorial Park flying kites of all sizes, shapes and colors.
“It turned out to be a good day for bonding. Not only kids had a grand time flying kites but adults, too,” Sikkel said.
Yesterday was supposed to be the fourth Marianas Winds Kite Festival and Cultural Food Fair, Brilliant Star’s biggest fundraiser event held in cooperation with the Marianas Visitors Authority.
Kites are still available for sale at the school with prices ranging from $8 to $15, but for those who want to make their own kites can do so.
Attractive prizes are at stake for the winners in the different contest categories such as the highest flying kite, smallest kite, biggest kite, and most eye-catching kite. To buy kites, or for more information, contact Brilliant Star at 323-7827.
