The Korean Association terminated its lease contract with the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa two years before it is supposed to end.
Angie Deleon Guerrero, the executive director of Karidat, said the Korean group is moving to a defunct garment factory in San Antonio which will be converted into a full community center with school and other facilities.
Joo Ho Joon, the former secretary general of the Korean group, said they will relocate to a new location that is more spacious and can better serve the Koreans residing in the CNMI.
Deleon Guerrero said the vacated office is now available to those who want to lease it.
Utilities were never considered for Karidat’s annual budget because of the Korean association’s lease.
Last year, Karidat paid CUC an average of $762 for water and electricity each month.
Deleon Guerrero expressed hope that someone will take over the lease.
“The building is entirely ours [Karidat]. It’s a pretty big space and has a nice conference room,” she told the Variety in a phone interview.
Karidat, which gets its funding from grants and donations, has been helping underprivileged people and families for years now, including displaced foreign workers.
Deleon Guerrero said Karidat continues to welcome support from the local community to sustain its charitable projects.
