La Fiesta Mall rebirth

Dubbed as “The Rebirth of La Fiesta Mall: Conceptual Ideas Contest,” Frederickson said the contest aims to “ascertain a sustainable concept and a buildable solution for La Fiesta Mall, and to create architecture that will excite and make the CNMI a regional destination.”

Bridge Capital is interested in possible ways to utilize the former La Fiesta Mall, which is owned by the CNMI government.

Designers who will join the contest must include both interior and exterior renovation, and utilize the entire complex, incorporate sustainable ideas, and to think about the historical, contextual, social, and environmental aspects of La Fiesta.

Contestants must submit a one-page narrative describing how the abandoned mall will be revitalized.

The concept should include floor plans, elevations, site plans, models, and renderings to convey the participant’s intent.

Contestants can submit their ideas through any medium but a CD/DVD containing digital copies of all the content is required. No minimum or maximum content is required. More details about the contest will be released next week.

Just last week, the government rejected the March 2009 proposal of Bridge Capital LLC to revitalize the former mall and operate video lottery there.

Bridge Capital chief executive officer and managing member John K. Baldwin said in a statement that they remain fully committed to assist the CNMI government in revitalizing the former mall and promote a sustainable tourism to revive the economy.

Baldwin said that they are willing to spend $5 million to renovate the property and they will participate in any new requests for proposals that the government will issue for the revitalization of  La Fiesta.
