Commonwealth Arts Council coordinator Parker Yobei yesterday said today is the last day for the month-long Cultural Heritage & Arts Pacifica Exhibit in the lobby function room of the Hyatt Regency Saipan in Garapan.
“We are inviting everybody to come and check out the beautiful artwork we have on display. We will be open from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.,” Yobei said.
The exhibit enjoyed a steady stream of visitors, especially tourists and a fair share of locals, he added.
Visitors also had the chance to watch local artists demonstrate their different crafts every Saturday, like bead making, lavalava presentation, art leaf painting, and more.
Yobei earlier said they had been enjoying brisk sales especially for handmade jewelry items made from shells and local materials and that artists had refilled the display shelves several times already.
All the proceeds from the sold items will go back to the artists. Saipan has 93 registered local artists while Tinian and Rota have from 20 to 30.
Yobei said with the end of the Cultural Heritage and Arts Pacifica Exhibit, they are getting ready for the last major exhibit of the year which is the Christmas Art Exhibit set to open in the middle of November.
Arts Council Executive Director Angel Hocog said they are very thankful to the Hyatt for allowing them to hold the exhibit at the hotel, which is a very accessible venue for everyone.
