Law earmarks $402K for Rota Casino Gaming Commission

Rota Local Law 17-4 divided the budget into nine items, including $228,865.17 for the salaries of the commissioners.

At least $60,000 is separately appropriated for the salary of the commission’s executive director and $25,000 for the administrative assistant.

The Rota mayor’s office is separately getting $36,761.10 for its operations.

“The chairman of the Rota Casino Gaming Commission shall be the expenditure authority for the funds appropriated in this section except for item number (9) which shall be the mayor of Rota,” R.L.L. 17-4 stated.

The people of Rota ratified a popular initiative legalizing the casino industry on their island during the 2007 general elections.

The Rota Casino Act of 2007 empowers the commission to oversee the casino industry with the primary duty of issuing licenses to potential investors.

Unlike Tinian where the casino license is restricted to just five, the Rota casino industry sets no restrictions on how many investors will be allowed to operate casino on the island.
