LB Director Glenna S.P. Reyes said the personnel assigned to the archives were recalled to the main legislative building and will occupy the office of the CNMI Youth Congress.
The archives office was moved to a government housing unit near the Veterans Affairs Office in 2008 after the Supreme Court ruled that Saipan should have 18 instead of just 16 House members.
The decision was based on the 2000 U.S. Census statistics when the population on Saipan was over 69,000.
Two new offices were created for the additional House lawmakers and the archives’ office was transferred.
Reyes sent out a memorandum yesterday about the archives’ temporary shutdown.
“In an effort to reduce operational costs, the Legislative Bureau Archives Building will be temporarily closed down….
Legislative documents may be accessed by contacting the employees at their new designated office. The office of the CNMI Youth Congress has been relocated to the office space adjacent to the office of the website content editor,” she said.
She thanked the management of the Department of Lands and Natural Resources-Division of Parks and Grounds, the Department of Public Works-Operations and Maintenance Division, and the Board of Parole for maintaining the grounds at the archives building.
Legislative documents may be accessed by contacting LB staff via email — [email protected] and/or [email protected].
The archivist clerk can be reached at 664-8863; the librarian at 664-8845; and the CNMI Youth Congress at 664-8863.
