SAIPAN Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho announced that the 79th Liberation Day Carnival will be held from June 19 to July 6, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the Garapan Fishing Base.
This year’s theme, “Weaving Heritage and Embracing Peace,” was created by Kagman High School student Isabella Yiftheg, who also designed its logo.
The 2025 Liberation Day parade grand marshal is Bob Jones, the recently retired founder of Triple J Enterprises.
“Bob Jones has contributed to the CNMI [since] way back,” Camacho said in a press conference on Wednesday. “Even in Tinian he’s really contributing [by] promoting farming. We need to promote sustainability and food security,” he added.
According to Priscilla Iakopo, the mayor’s chief of staff, the parade route will start at the Quartermaster intersection and end at the Garapan Fishing Base, as it did last year.
“This year we are not changing anything compared to the previous years,” she said. “The roads are almost done. We’ve actually sent out letters to the permitting agencies as well as the [other] agencies at the fishing base. That is the location…. We want to provide a safe and spacious location for everyone.”
Iakopo said the application process for Liberation Carnival concessionaires is still being finalized.
Additionally, the search is on for this year’s Liberation Queen. The application form can be found at https://tinyurl.com/2025LiberationQueen
Candidates must be born female, 15-25 years old, possess “good moral character,” and residing in the CNMI. The application packet provides more details.
Mayor Camacho said he is reaching out to the mayors of Tinian, Rota, and the Northern Islands to ensure they have Liberation Queen candidates.
