Liberation Day festivities to be held in Koblerville

The Liberation Day Committee and the Saipan Mayor’s Office agreed to move the venue from the Garapan Fishing Base to Koblerville for various reasons.

Jonas Barcinas, last year’s committee chairman, said  Koblerville has sufficient space for the Liberation Day activities.

“We want to bring the celebration to the community and to allow the tourists to move around the island,” he added.

Barcinas has yet to officially accept his reappointment to the committee which will finalize its organization next week.

He said there’s a huge parking space at the Koblerville Community Youth Center and “it is safer there because it’s close to the police station.”

The parade route will start from St. Jude Church down to the Mobil gas station and toward the community youth center, he said.

If the committee finds the new venue “acceptable,”  next year’s celebration will be held in Koblerville again, he added.

Newly designated Liberation Queen Committee chairwoman Vinycia Seman said they will  start distributing applications for candidates today.

Applications are available at the mayor’s office  in San Antonio during working hours.

Gordon Marciano will remain vice chairman of the Liberation Committee while Teri Camacho is still the as Liberation Committee treasurer.

Donald Crisostomo heads the floats and parade committee; Frank Shiro, grounds activity, Gloriana Teuira, entertainment; and Lirassa Flores, booths and concessions.

The Liberation Day Committee is also assisted by Martha Sablan, Tina Pangelinan, Juan M. Aldan and Ana Salas.

Barcinas said they are encouraging community members to be part of the committee.
