Kasandra Borja Santos and Eusebio C. Borja each received $500 for participating in this year’s virtual celebration.
Santos said the float entry of her family was a traditional cart that depicted the resiliency of their grandfather and the people of the CNMI.
“We’ve been through many challenges and transitions from the Japanese era to the present time,” she said, adding that despite many challenges, the local people have persevered.

She said the cart was their grandparents’ primary mode of transportation.
“The cart represents our history,” Santos said, adding the people should not forget their past, but instead cherish it.
Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang said he was very grateful to the float competition participants.
However, since only two floats joined the contest, there was no winner. The competition must have at last five entries.
