Liberation festivities begin today

“We will make the event very successful by bringing more entertainment for everybody to enjoy,” he added.

“This is the time to remember all the wonderful things we enjoy because of the courage, the spirit, and the sacrifices made for us in the past,” he said.

Barcinas said the committee is very excited to bring the Liberation program to the community.

There are lots of performers who will entertainment the people until midnight, he added.

Today, he said they will also officially introduce to the public the three Liberation Queen contestants: Joni Francesca Cruz Castro, Nizelynn Teregeyo Masayos, and Mariah Dina Indalecio Ada.

The program will start at 7 p.m. after the Mass at the Kristo Rai Church which is across from the Liberation Day activity center.

He said he will, once again, see to it that this year’s activities are “of the highest level despite the budget shortfall.”

Barcinas said the Liberation Day Committee will “play smart” and try to be more conservative and work within its means.

Last year, he said,  the committee also had a minimal budget but “we were very successful and this year we want to go beyond.”

Barcinas is asking the business community to continue making donations for the raffle draw prizes.

Liberation Day on Saipan, which is held on the Fourth of July, not only celebrates the nation’s Independence Day, it also commemorates the day when locals were released from Camp Susupe after the war.
