There will no fireworks display but there will be entertainment, according to Frank Tudela, the Logistic and Transportation Committee chairman.
Because of financial constraints, he added, there will also be no fireworks display on July 4.
But the month-long celebration will be filled with colorful presentations, different performers, cultural dancers and local bands and musicians.
Tina C. Pangelinan, chairwoman for the Liberation Queen committee, said the four contestants will be officially presented to the public.
The candidates are Luciann Marie M. Indalecio, 15, freshman of Kagman High School; Kaylynn L. Sablan, 16, sophomore of Kagman High School; Carley V. Laniyo, 16, sophomore of Marianas High School; and Haoting Zhang Romolor, 18, senior of Saipan Southern High School.
The Bank of Saipan, U-2 Collection, and Diane M. Clayton are sponsors of Indalecio; 670Rock Steady Shop, Francisco DLG Cabrera and May Ann P. Reyes are the sponsors of Laniyo; Haoting is sponsored by Island Floral and Gift, and Pacific Island Club; while Sablan is sponsored by Noni Saipan, USA Miracle Oil, Mr. and Mrs. Ta Bun Kuy.
The new Liberation Queen will be crowned on July 2 and the Saipan municipal government hopes to generate at least $30,000 from the pageant, which is a fundraising event.
Tonight, four cultural entertainers will take the stage to perform dance and song numbers.
Entertainment Committee chairman Nolas Kaliga told Variety that the nightly performance will start at 7 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. From Monday to Thursday, it ends at 10 p.m.
For Friday’s entertainment, the performers are Talaabwog Woman Dancer, Timothy Circle Youth Band, Inatuas Cultural Dancers and Archilyn and Ace.
On Saturday, the Angel International School of Dance Inc., Stroken Band, Uncle Ben Saipan Dream Academy, and Don and Jessie Roy are performing.
On Sunday, Project Impact, Jerry Maglonzo and W and V Band are the performers.
Each performer will take the stage for least one-hour.
Kaliga is encouraging other local bands, performers, entertainers and dance groups to perform. Those are interested are invited to register at the mayor’s office, he said.
The Liberation Day Committee is still accepting entries for the float competition during the grand parade.
Those interested to join the float competition can get registration forms from the Marianas Visitors Authority.
