Administration officials led by Press Secretary Angel A. Demapan and CPA Executive Director Edward Deleon Guerrero also delivered testimony expressing support for Lifoifoi and Toves.
Lifoifoi was CPA board chairman while Toves represented Rota on the board, but their terms ended last year.
During the hearing, the committee chairman, Sen. Frank Q. Cruz, R-Tinian, mentioned some issues facing CPA.
He asked Lifoifoi how long will it take to finish the projects at the newly constructed departure terminal of Tinian airport.
He noted that there are many things that still need to be installed like the baggage conveyor system, the roof replacements and the checkpoint area.
Cruz asked Toves about the portions of the Rota harbor that need repair and maintenance. He wants to know if the dredging project there has been completed already.
The dredging project on Rota, Toves said, has already been completed.
Both nominees vowed to focus on ongoing projects.
Saipan seaport manger MaryAnn Lizama said they support the reappointment of Lifoifoi and Toves. Continuity, she added, is vital so they are asking the Senate to confirm the two.
“It’s wonderful working with Lifoifoi and Toves. Both of them have shown their sincere interest and support to the employees of CPA,” she said.
CPA Executive Director Edward Deleon Guerrero said they were very happy that Lifoifoi and Toves got the full support of the Senate committee.
He said Lifoifoi and Toves are great assets to CPA. Their leadership and dedication are something that CPA needs so it can continue to improve, he added.
