Limtiaco will be replaced as Guam AG by John Weisenberger in an acting capacity until the new attorney general is elected this year.
Weisenberger, who was appointed by Gov. Felix P. Camacho last Friday, will serve the final six months of the four-year term vacated by Limtiaco.
“With this appointment I wanted to make sure that the work at this agency continues with someone very familiar with its operations. John’s management experience and legal knowledge will be an asset to the Office of the Attorney General at this most critical time,” the governor stated in a press release.
Limtiaco had asked the governor to appoint Phil Tydingco in the acting position.
The governor also initially considered attorney Liz Cruz and former U.S. Attorney Lenny Rapadas.
“I am confident that [Weisenberger] will continue the policies of attorney general Limtiaco for the remainder of this year when a new attorney general is elected by the people of Guahan. I appreciate John answering the call to serve and look forward to working with him as our island’s interim chief legal officer,” Camacho said.
Weisenberger has been serving as assistant attorney general in the civil division since August 2008. He previously served the AG’s Office from April 1977 to October 1977 as special assistant attorney general handling juvenile cases and from April 1991 to Feb. 2001 as assistant AG in the family division.
