Local dance groups invited to perform at Liberation Carnival

Liberation Day entertainment committee Nolas Kaliga said the public is “very much receptive” to the entertainment offered nightly at the carnival grounds, especially if they are dance numbers.

“We are trying to meet the expectations of the community,” Kaliga said.

More than 40 groups and solo artists will perform during the month-long carnival, and 80 percent of them are musical bands, Kaliga said.

He is encouraging local dance groups to sign up as the entertainment committee is still accepting performers.

The Liberation Day Committee has appropriated $12,000 to pay the entertainers performing during the carnival.

Kaliga said each group is paid $100 for every performance, a solo artist gets $75 and a dance group, $125.

For this week, Kaliga said there will be two performers every night starting as a show of respect for the funeral services at the Kristo Rai Church.

The presentations will start at 8 and ends at 10 p.m. The performers are Pwii Pwi Dancers and the High Pitch Band.

On Thursday, the performers are the Talaabwog Woman Dancers and the Timothy Circle Youth Band.

This will be their second presentation after the opening of the Liberation Day carnival on June 6, Kaliga said.

On Friday, it will be the turn of Yesterday’s Tomorrow and the USSP Band-Rock Islanders.
