The mayor will appear before PSS junior and senior high schools in a forum aimed to encourage them to maximize the existing education programs and resources available on Saipan, like those offered by NMC.
In a meeting with education officials last week, Flores said his office “works for the students and the Public School System.”
Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan said PSS is now working closely with NMC in facilitating the eventual entry of local high school graduates to the college.
“We are bringing information to our kids. We are working with the college in making the information available to them,” said Sablan.
All junior and senior high schools students on Saipan, Tinian and Rota are encouraged to register with NMC, according to the education commissioner.
One of the products of NMC’s School of Education is Annamarie Guerrero, a teacher at San Vicente Elementary School.
“The teachers at NMC’s School of Education are very caring. They are so concerned for your education,” she said.
She completed her bachelor of arts degree in education last December and is the latest addition to the school system’s highly qualified teachers, passing Praxis I and II.
Several of locally hired teachers employed in 20 elementary, junior and senior high schools are graduates or have acquired teaching-related background from NMC.
A lot of graduating local students pursue college education in the states and they eventually get employed off-island.
