GOVERNOR David M. Apatang on Tuesday thanked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for helping the CNMI recover from the devastation of Super Typhoon Sinlaku.

He met with Brig. Gen. Joseph C. “Clete” Goetz, commanding general and division engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pacific Ocean Division, and Lt. Col. Simratpal Singh at the As Gonno temporary debris storage and waste reduction site in Koblerville to recognize their efforts and express gratitude for their continued support of the Commonwealth’s recovery mission.

The governor thanked the USACE team for its work supporting CNMI recovery efforts.

The tour of the debris storage site provided an opportunity to observe ongoing debris management operations and discuss progress as recovery efforts continue across the CNMI.

The Office of the Governor said that since the start of recovery operations, USACE personnel and contractors have worked to remove, transport, consolidate, and process storm-generated debris, helping clear roadways, reduce hazards, and support the safe recovery of impacted communities.

The governor also expressed appreciation for USACE’s professionalism, commitment, and partnership.

“The work being carried out by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been instrumental to our recovery efforts,” he said.

“From debris removal and waste reduction operations to their continued coordination with local and federal partners, their steadfast commitment has helped move our communities closer to recovery each day. On behalf of the people of the Commonwealth, I extend my sincere gratitude to the men and women of USACE for their service and dedication,” the governor said.

Goetz and Singh provided CNMI officials with updates on ongoing operations and reaffirmed USACE’s commitment to supporting recovery objectives in partnership with the Commonwealth and federal stakeholders.
