GOVERNOR David M. Apatang has approved House Bill 24-23, which allows CNMI veterans to use a veteran ID card when applying for a vehicle license plate.
Authored by Rep. Julie Marie Ogo, the bill is now Public Law 24-23. The law updates the definition of a veteran to mean “a person who served on active duty or in a reserve component of any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and who has been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.” It also defines a disabled veteran as “a person who served on active duty or in a reserve component of any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, who has been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable, and who is certified as having at least 10% disability due to a service-related injury.”
The law allows veterans to use their veteran ID cards or VICs as proof of their veteran status when applying for a veteran’s license plate. P.L. 24-23 provides CNMI veterans with additional options for proving eligibility, and the VIC, which serves as official proof of veteran status, is now accepted as an alternative form of verification in certain contexts.
