THE U.S. House Armed Services Committee has approved an amendment offered by Delegate Kimberlyn King-Hinds to the fiscal year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act to add one additional slot for the CNMI at U.S. service academies.
Guam Delegate Jim Moylan submitted the amendment on King-Hinds’ behalf to the Subcommittee on Military Personnel.
The measure, as originally written, proposed three slots for CNMI students to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, and the U.S. Air Force Academy. King-Hinds’ amendment increases the number of slots to four.
In her e-newsletter, King-Hinds said her amendment will enable more CNMI students to attend these prestigious, tuition-free institutions and reflects the CNMI’s contributions to U.S. national defense.
She thanked Moylan, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, for submitting the amendment in committee on her behalf, as well as HASC Chairman Mike Rogers and Ranking Member Rep. Adam Smith for supporting it.
The NDAA, King-Hinds said, must still pass the full House and Senate and be signed by the president to become law.
