TWO months after the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Sinlaku in April, the demolition of what remains of the Koblerville Elementary School campus began on Wednesday, marking a new beginning for students, faculty and school staff.

Office of the Governor special advisor for policy and programs Kimo M. Rosario shared the development with Variety, saying the demolition of the school buildings will pave the way for the reconstruction of new campus facilities.

Rosario said the $9 million Koblerville Elementary School campus-wide rehabilitation project is funded 100% through the Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance program.

The project, he said, is expected to be completed one year after construction begins.

“Construction is expected to begin a week or so following the start of demolition. KoES represents the ninth PSS Yutu FEMA-PA construction project to soon break ground or begin construction,” Rosario said.

The school buildings are about 40 years old and required major rehabilitation due to long-term deterioration and damage from successive natural disasters, including the most recent super typhoon.

Ahead of the demolition, then-Education Commissioner Dr. Lawrence F. Camacho assured parents and educators in March that learning at Koblerville Elementary School would continue while the campus undergoes major reconstruction.
