Local startups take strategic steps toward growth

(NMC) — The CNMI Innovation Incubator Program recently concluded an impactful Business Planning and Strategy workshop, marking the launch of its Strategic Business Training Series for the inaugural cohort of local startups. The workshop took place on Dec.13, 2025, at the Incubator Makerspace of Beach Road Plaza, in collaboration with the Northern Marianas College Center for Training and Innovation.

The interactive session brought the cohort together to assess progress and strengthen their business foundations, preparing participants for the next stage of growth. Through collaborative discussions and hands-on exercises, entrepreneurs refined their strategies, clarified objectives, and enhanced their business plans to foster long-term growth and maximize their potential.

The workshop was facilitated by Nicole Babauta, senior consumer sales manager for Docomo Pacific, whose extensive experience in the CNMI business community provided participants with practical, tailored guidance to advance their ventures.

“The workshop helped us think more creatively and stay adaptable with our services, giving us a clearer view of our finances and areas for improvement. It also helped us better understand our strengths, challenges, and opportunities, so we can make more informed decisions moving forward,” said Emy Sablan, co-owner of HighLands Lawncare Services.

Participants were highly engaged throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions, sharing insights, and applying concepts directly to their businesses. Babauta offered strategic clarity and actionable guidance, helping innovators gain a clear understanding of their business landscape and identify opportunities for growth and optimization.

The Business Planning and Strategy workshop is the first of five training sessions in the CNMI Innovation Incubator’s Strategic Business Training Series. The upcoming session will focus on financial literacy and management and will also be available to college and high school students. Details will be announced in the coming weeks.
