McDonald’s funds meal program for typhoon-affected residents

(Press Release) — “McDonald’s steps up yet again!” said Pastor Wayne Gillespie of The Salvation Army after accepting a $10,000 donation from McDonald’s to help provide meals following the destruction caused by Typhoon Sinlaku.

“We know that The Salvation Army is always there for our community, and we are proud to support that mission,” said Marcia Ayuyu, owner-operator of McDonald’s. “Community means everything to us, and when our people need help, we believe in stepping up. It is an honor to contribute funding that will help provide meals to those impacted by the recent typhoon.”

Pastors Annie Gillespie and Wayne Gillespie echoed that gratitude, saying, “This is amazing — thank you,” and shared that the donation will go toward purchasing ingredients to provide roughly 700 meals daily to the community, including deliveries to residents who are homebound or receiving hospice care.

McDonald’s also thanked the Gillespies and the entire Salvation Army team for their work serving the community, especially through the large number of meals prepared and distributed each day. The couple works alongside a small team to prepare and deliver meals across various locations on the island.

Pastor Annie Gillespie also thanked Marcia Ayuyu for the donation and said, “This is truly what it is about — helping others.”

Her husband, Pastor Wayne Gillespie, also expressed his gratitude, saying, “The Ayuyu family and all the folks who are part of McDonald’s are kind, caring people who are genuinely concerned for the well-being of our community. McDonald’s supports our work year-round, and they always stand by the people of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands during disasters. Thank you, McDonald’s!”
