(Press Release) — The Marianas Office of Micronesian Legal Services Corporation is downsizing due to budget concerns.
“While we want to continue offering legal help to as many low-income people as possible, we have limited resources.
“In order to continue to provide high quality legal services, we must respect our capacity to do the work.
“Currently, we are working on cases for those clients we have already accepted for service. We are only taking intakes for new cases for the following potential clients:
“1) victims and survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, or sexual assault; and
“2) persons with emergencies or time-sensitive legal matters, such as having received a summons and complaint in a civil case that needs answering; those where legal help is needed to preserve benefits or status; those whose time to raise their claim may be running out because of a statute of limitations; those who need guardianships of orphaned or abandoned minor children or of disabled /incompetent adults; or other legal emergencies.
“We are still open for notary services. We will resume full services if and when we are able.
“If you are interested in getting our help or want to refer someone to us, it is best to call ahead (670-234-7729) to discuss the legal need with us to see if we may be able to help you. We continue to be dedicated to our mission to help with access to justice for all and legal services to the indigent.”
