THE Democratic Party of the Northern Mariana Islands is celebrating the “Nov. 4 Blue Wave” following Democratic victories in New Jersey, Virginia, New York City, and California.

The local Democrats issued the following statement on Thursday:

“In a resounding repudiation of President Trump and Republican failures, voters elected Democrats up and down the ballot in numerous city, county, and statewide offices across the country.

“New Jersey voters elected former Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill as their next governor, making her the second woman to hold the office. In Virginia, former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger was elected governor, the first woman to hold that position. Also in Virginia, State Senator Ghazala Hashmi became lieutenant governor, the first Muslim woman elected to a statewide office in U.S. history. In California, voters approved Proposition 50, which allows state legislators to redistrict before midterm elections, in part to counter Republican gerrymandering in other states.

“In what may have been the most closely watched race of the season, New York City voters elected State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani as their next mayor. In his election night victory speech, the 34-year-old Muslim American immigrant delivered a message of hope and excitement for the future of his city and country. Mamdani, who has faced criticism from President Trump, said, ‘To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.’”

Sen. Celina R. Babauta added, “From sea to shining sea, we see a new dawn of hope and unity rising as Democrats prevailed from West to East in yesterday’s election in our Nation.”

NMI Democratic Party Chair Annie Pickelsimer said, “The Republican status quo isn’t working. People are hungry. People are suffering, and President Trump is throwing lavish parties at the White House. He doesn’t care for the American people. Republicans don’t care, and they don’t have a plan.”

She added that the Nov. 4, 2025, Blue Wave “is just the beginning. We are focused on lowering costs and making life better for working families. We will earn every vote, and we will win.”
