Raiders rise to the top in 3-on-3 youth hoops showdown

TEAM Raiders emerged victorious at the Saipan Mayor’s Precinct 3 3-on-3 Youth Basketball Tournament, held Saturday at the Garapan Basketball Court.

The Raiders, who have competed for the title in previous tournaments, secured the championship by defeating Precinct 5 champions Team Bricklayers, 30-25. Team Bricklayers took second place, while returning Team USA finished third.

A total of 15 teams participated in the tournament. Mayor Ramon Blas “RB” Camacho, Lt. Gov. Dennis James Mendiola, and local business owner Steve Jang spoke to the players about the importance of youth sports, active lifestyles, and building bonds with peers from diverse backgrounds.

Camacho, Mendiola, and Jang kicked off the tournament with three-point shots, much to the delight of the cheering crowd of young athletes.

The Saipan Mayor’s Office expressed gratitude to its partners for supporting the tournament, including the Carolinian Affairs Office, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, the Department of Lands and Natural Resources, and Steve Jang of Plumeria Steakhouse.

The organizers also extended an invitation to the business community to support the program by sponsoring teams or contributing in other ways to help grow and expand this youth initiative.

“We can accomplish anything when we all work together! Let’s all promote a Safe Community, Safe Village, and a Clean Island,” the Mayor’s Office said.
