Saipan Chamber committee meets with lawmaker, PSS on HB 24-42

(SCC) — The Saipan Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee recently met with Rep. Vincent Aldan and Commissioner of Education Dr. Lawrence Camacho and his team to discuss House Bill 24-42, which proposes mandating comprehensive financial literacy education in all CNMI public middle and high schools.

The first meeting, held on Oct. 20, 2025, offered an opportunity for both sides to share viewpoints, clarify goals, and exchange recommendations. President of Northern Marianas College Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero, also participated and provided helpful insights on aligning financial literacy education with college and career readiness.

A follow-up meeting took place at the SCC office on Nov. 25, 2025, where PSS shared preliminary plans and data on how they envision implementing the financial literacy course in public high schools, beginning as a pilot program and eventually into full curriculum implementation. The discussion was productive and engaging, with all parties working toward identifying practical steps for moving the proposal forward.

These meetings reflect a positive and collaborative effort between the Chamber, its members, policymakers, and education leaders to strengthen financial knowledge and preparedness for students across the CNMI.
