(Office of the Governor) — Gov. David M. Apatang and Lt. Gov. Dennis C. Mendiola are encouraging members of the public to participate in the federal comment process for the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s Request for Information and Interest or RFI, issued under the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The RFI marks the first step in a federal process that may lead to a potential future lease sale for critical minerals on the Outer Continental Shelf offshore the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
To promote public awareness, transparency, and meaningful civic engagement, the Office of the Governor will host a town hall meeting on Tinian to provide residents with information and an opportunity to share feedback.
• When: Friday, Jan. 9, 2025
• Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Where: Tinian Conference Center – Bar-K Diner
“This process gives our people the opportunity to be informed and to help shape decisions that may affect our islands and our future,” said Governor Apatang. “We strongly encourage Tinian residents to attend, learn more, and make their voices heard.”
BOEM must receive all comments, information, and indications of interest in response to the RFI no later than Jan. 12, 2025.
